These appointments are necessary to control or prevent periodontal or ‘gum’ disease. The periodontal tissues and bone are the foundations in which the teeth are seated and so by nature are crucial to dental health. Our hygienist will remove any harmful deposits of calculus (tartar) and give you advice on how to maintain gum health.
Your teeth, gums, fillings, soft tissue, joints and bone will be examined. Full mouth oral cancer screening will be performed. Radiographs and clinical digital photographs may be required. Your dentist will provide you with a tailored treatment plan and advice on how to meet your oral health needs.
White Fillings
A number of techniques are available to restore a decayed or broken down tooth to its natural beauty. At ProDental we can offer the full range from high quality composites placed directly on the tooth to more expensive, high durability, hand made porcelain inlay and onlay restorations that can be bonded to the tooth. All the restorations are carefully colour matched to your tooth and provide a seal protecting the remaining tooth.
Amalgam (Silver Fillings)
The tooth needs to be prepared more for this type of restoration. Though it can look unnatural, it is an excellent material to restore a tooth.
The affected tooth will be prepared by removing the infected or dying nerve from the root canal. The canal(s) will then be filled with a natural rubber based material. Molar root treatments are technically demanding and can take a long time.
A crown may be necessary if a tooth is heavily restored and showing signs of leakage. It may also be needed if the tooth cracks and is unrestorable with a filling. It acts like a jacket over the remaining tooth, restoring strength, appearance and function. Crowns will greatly enhance the appearance of heavily filled, chipped, discoloured or misshapen teeth. In some cases they can be used to correct a malalignment of teeth where braces are not an option.
A bridge can be used as a desirable alternative to a removable partial denture to fill small spaces. In simple terms they can be viewed as crowns joined together and cemented on the supporting teeth, with a fixed false tooth in between to “bridge the gap”.They are both aesthetic and functional, restoring your natural bite and preventing unwanted movement of the adjacent teeth and over eruption of the tooth opposite the gap.
Veneers can increase the aesthetic value of teeth improving the shade and shape of the them.
In most cases discoloured teeth can be restored to their natural brightness by the minimal treatment of whitening. Best results are achieved with the use of a mild dental bleaching agent placed in small trays which are worn at night.
An implant is the gold standard method to replace a tooth. The titanium structure is placed into the bone during a simple surgical procedure, mimicking a natural tooth root.
We use a successful local dental lab and offer chrome (metal based) and acrylic (pink) dentures. There are a wide selection of teeth available from basic acrylic teeth to much more natural looking, hand made, porcelain teeth. The retention of a denture can be greatly aided by the placement of dental implants onto which a denture can be fixed. We also offer a new innovation, the Valplast partial denture. This is a flexible denture made of a durable nylon.
